What is the OLSAT?
The Online Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) is a test of abstract thinking and reasoning ability of children Gr 4 – Gr 12. The OLSAT Online is a multiple choice test, taken on a computer in the Triangle Education Assessments testing center. It measures verbal, quantitative, and spatial reasoning ability. The test yields verbal and nonverbal scores, from which a total score is derived, called a School Ability Index (SAI). It is useful for identifying gifted children and a child’s processing strengths and weaknesses. The test can be administered in groups. This test was first authored in 1936 and is now in its 8th edition.

The practice test for the CogAT and OLSAT is available for grades 2–12. This short practice test gives students an idea of what to expect on test day and it will increase their confidence in taking either the CogAT or OLSAT test. A few practice questions are given as examples of the types of questions on the CogAT and OLSAT and answers are provided in the Directions for Administration manual. Students actually practice bubbling in their answers and the Directions for Administration manual contains script similar to that on the actual tests. The practice tests are untimed. THE ONLINE OLSAT MAY BE GIVEN SEPERATELY FROM THE STANFORD10 TEST BUT ONLY FOR HOMESCHOOLS OR PRIVATE SCHOOLS.
