The CogAT® (Cognitive Abilities Test®) Online

(Instructions for scheduling and setting up the CogAT7 online test can be found below.  The CogAT 7 online must be taken in conjunction with the Iowa E online so there will be 3 days of testing (CogAT takes 1 day and Iowa E online takes 2 days) that must be scheduled with us.  No refunds are given if the test is cancelled within 2 weeks of the test date.) 

Test Type: Nationally Standardized Cognitive Abilities Test, multiple choice, fill-in-the-bubble
Purpose: To measure and learn about students’ general and specific reasoning abilities: To assess students’ abilities in reasoning and problem solving using verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal (spatial) symbols.
Grades: K-12 (Reading is not required of students using Levels 5/6, 7, or 8.)
Time: Approximately 95 minutes. View testing schedule
Scoring: Year-round by computer  
Recommendations: Take it every two or three years
Administrator Requirements: Administered by Triangle Education Assessments. Can be done remotely at your location or on a computer at our locaiton in Apex.  No B.A. required of parent or gaurdian. 
Restrictions: CogAT is not available for Dallas ISD (areas subject to change). Can only be purchased by homeschool or small private school (enrollment under 250 or else email us).

What is the CogAT?
The Cognitive Ability Test (CogAT) is a widely used group administered ability test. First developed and published in 1954 as the Lorge-Thorndike Intelligence test, it has been revised several times over the years. It is often used to identify gifted students and helps the parent understand their children’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses and learning styles.  Free Report for Parents (click here). 
  
What is tested on the CogAT?
The assessment consists of three batteries which measure three reasoning abilities: sequential reasoning, inductive reasoning, and quantitative reasoning.

Instructions for Scheduling the Iowa E/CogAT Online

Before Purchasing the Iowa E/CogAT Online Test for Your Location:

  1. Make sure your computer meets the minimal system requirements.
  2. Run a system check to ensure your system meets specifications. (Click “Run System Check” in the first box. You do not have to do the other evaluations.)
  3. Download the Secure Student Browser. The browser creates a secure testing environment on your home computer. Scroll down the page and click “Online Testing” (heading is on the right). Under “Online Testing” on the left, click “Secure Student Browser Instructions – Windows” (or the Mac version). Then click the “Secure Student Browser” for your Windows or Mac computer.


Before Purchasing the Iowa E/CogAT Online at OUR location:

  1. Call our office to check availability and to schedule an appointment time. Schedule at least 2 weeks in advance if at all possible. Availability is limited. Testing takes three days and we schedule these Monday – Thursday 9:30 am – 1:00 pm. Please note: If extended testing hours and/or additional testing days are needed, a charge of $25 per day will apply. No refunds are given if you cancel less than 2 weeks prior to your test date.


After purchasing the Iowa E/CogAT7 Online Test for your location or at Triangle Education Assessments:


  1. Complete the School Verification Form (you will be directed to this at checkout).
  2. Schedule at least 2 weeks in advance. Call our office to check availability and to schedule an appointment time. Testing takes three days and we schedule these Monday – Thursday 9:30 am – 1:00 pm. Please note: If extended testing hours and/or additional testing days are needed, a charge of $25 per day will apply. There is no refund if you cancel less than 2 weeks prior to your test date.
  3. Complete the Iowa E/CogAT7 Online Student Registration Form for EACH student.
  4. Once we receive your registration form(s) and payment we will email you confirmation of your test dates and times. Please note: It is strongly advised that Iowa E Online be taken over 2 consecutive days.


Test Days: Iowa E/CogAT7 Online Test At Your Location:

  1. Session codes will be e-mailed by 9:15AM each morning of testing.
  2. We will approve the student for each session, so it is very important that the schedule be followed.
  3. The score report will be emailed immediately after all testing is completed or within 72 hours.


Please note: If extended testing hours and/or additional testing days are needed, a charge of $25 per day will apply.
