Test Type: Nationally Standardized Achievement Test, multiple choice, fill-in-the-bubble
Purpose: To measure the skills and achievement of students in grades K-12 in Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics and the optional tests of Social Studies, Science, and Sources of Information.
Grades: K-12 (Grades 3-8 and 9-12 can test at the same time)
Time: Approximately 2 - 5.5 hours over 2 - 5 days View/Print a Sample 2-Day Testing Schedule
Scoring: Machine (Mar–July or if 15+ tests are ordered) and Handscoring (no minimum order) for Quick Results year round. (Iowa E is machine scored year round.) (Sample Machine Score Report) (Sample Handscore Report
Norms: 2005
  • Spring norms: Mar. 1 - July 31 (We must receive the materials by Aug. 15)
  • Fall norms: Aug. 1 - Nov. 30 (We must receive the materials by Dec. 15)
  • Midyear norms: Dec. 1 - Feb. 29 (We must receive the materials by Mar. 15)
Recommendations: Take it every year
Administrator Requirements: B.A. or B.S. degree
Restrictions: Iowa A tests are not available in Iowa (areas subject to change). Can only be purchased by homeschool or small private school (enrollment under 250 or else email us).

What are the Iowa Tests®?
The Iowa Tests of Basic Skills® (Grades K-8) and Iowa Tests of Educational Development® (Grades 9-11/12) are sufficient for many state's private and home school requirements for an annual nationally standardized test. These tests can be administered in your own home by someone with at least a BA degree.

What is Tested on The Iowa Tests?
The Iowa Tests® measure the skills and achievement of students in grades K-11/12 in Reading , Language Arts, Mathematics and the optional tests of Social Studies, Science, and Sources of Information. Handscoring: Available year round for quick results. Will be emailed within 2 weeks.

Machine Scoring: Will be emailed to you within 6-8 weeks from the date you return all testing materials. 

Group Discounts: Group tests must be ordered by one person 4 to 6 weeks in advance. Results will be shipped to that person to distribute to the group.

The Interest Explorer is a career guidance and counseling instrument designed to help high school students make wise educational and career-planning decisions about their futures. You must place your order for Interest Explorer while ordering your high school level Iowa Test (ITED Gr 9-12, Level 15-18) and have them machine scored. Iowa Practice Test
The Iowa Tests of Basic Skills® Practice Tests are available for grades K–12.
